One Week In ...

Today is the start of Week 2 of the current 6 Week Challenge happening at the Train for LIFE studio.

I am totally amped about how well the team have done and their commitment to the challenge during the first week.

The focus for Week 1 was nutrition.  Tonight I will get to find out how they team have done on their own at home with the motto “I choose healthy” when they eat.

Nutritional advice is outside the core skill set for personal trainers so the advice given in the challenge is of a general nature and focused on making it easier to make healthy choices around food.  (For specific and personalised nutritional and dietary advice seek out an expert).

Back to the Challenge …

Here are 5 simple guidelines I observe:

  1. Eat real food
  2. Eat to appetite
  3. Give the tastebuds, tummy, and body plenty of variety
  4. Make time to eat and enjoy food
  5. When in doubt have a glass of water

To anyone carrying extra weight it can be easy for food to become the enemy.  Creating a healthy relationship with food is now understood to be an important part of achieving the results you want for your health.

Some facts about food that we need to remember, and reasons to love food:

  1. Food keeps us alive
  2. Food provides all the macro and micro nutrients we need for good health
  3. Food can be fun to prepare and share

Create a healthy relationship with food and your body is very likely to respond in a positive way.

Every Saturday in the challenge we share breakfast - this week it was Jamie Oliver’s Super food Protein Loaf - Wheat Free, Gluten Free & Tasty on P68 of the Everyday Super Food cookbook, with lots of yummy toppings for extra taste and nutritional value.

Stay tuned for the update on Week 2 - it’s all about Hydration and I’ve got some amazing yummy surprises planned for Saturday’s brekkie that will help you stay hydrated and strong.
