"You've gotta delay gratification"
Joe De Sena's response to the question, what will make you bulletproof?
This is one I need to train!!
Day 13 - An easy trail, a scenic route, for 75 minutes. Brilliant. ... only I forgot about the 75 burpees until I went to write down my notes. Seriously!!! Captivated by the beauty of the day and the run, and a little too consumed with taking a rest when it was done. This is a good example of distraction taking one off course.
One of the things that is totally awesome about Joe De Sena's Spartan Fit program is that he encourages you to use the environment and what is in it for your daily workout, instead of finding fancy equipment. Today was such a brilliant example of how fantastic this can be. Fantastic enough to forget the burpees.
There were a few highlights for me today.
The day was perfect. Sunny, dry and a little bit cool, and comfortable in the shade of the trees along most of my run, the trail peppered with the signs of spring.
I haven't run the Green Arrow Trail on its own for a few months. My eyes opened to the sight of new growth and bright green stems along the sides of the dirt track. The trail itself was covered in lots of dry leaves that had fallen from the trees, and the weather was perfect - no rain, no slippery muddy downhills and no overgrowth to run through and whip my face on the way by.
I was able to run the full distance without stopping for rest. This is really pleasing, and allowed me to enjoy an improvement of 1 minute and 9 seconds on average per kilometer since first doing this run in January this year. If you're a runner, then you can empathise with the joy that this brings.
And aside from a little fatigue in the soles of my feet my body feels really good. This is surprising after yesterdays heavy carry and the weekend of burpees and lunges.
I still have to do my burpees ...
Tomorrow's schedule reads cold plunge, foam roll, standing desk and feast day ... I can't wait!!!
Aroooo!!!!
