Chasing 4:00

While still a teenager living at home and a prolific art student I would collect washed up objects from the stretches of boulders which wraped around the coast, drag them up the hill to my home and make. Not small things but large awkward heavy water logged things, my dog AhFa patiently waiting as I grunted, dragged, lifted and threw these things sometimes for hours until we got home. Going for a run meant rock hoping as fast as possible trying to keep up with AhFa until something caught my eye, AhFa looking forward down the beach and back at me hoping that my sudden stop did not mean the end of our run, it was the BEST and I miss my stripy tiger mut every day.

Carrying 20kg up a hill last week, was the BEST. The burning in my legs and shoulders connected my mind with my past adventures on the rocks and current training, which was unexpected and pretty great. I was carrying 20kg up that hill because one of my goals for the next twelve months is to qualify for the Obstacle Course Racing World Championship. To do that I need to come in the top ten in my division in a qualifying race, based on my previous race breakdown this means moving through the course at a speed as close to 4:00 minutes per kilometre as possible, I will admit this is overwhelming. I currently run about 2 minutes slower then that depending on hills and other terrain. There is work to be done, the chase is on!

I will be documenting my training here over the next 12 months. Please share your experiences thoughts and suggestions about anything you read.
