“Human beings are meant to climb, crawl, jump and get dirty”
Joe Desena
And don't it feel good ... I just did that! Well, maybe not climb, but job done, tick box on the rest of it.
Day 1 of the Spartan Fit program is appropriately challenging for a first workout and yet simple and straight forward.
The workout comprises pushing, crawling, jumping and running for multiple rounds; and the front of my body is now covered in a combination of grass, dirt and small prickles ...
For me the challenge was maintaining form and enthusiasm for the required number of rounds. Each round of itself was simple enough, but to keep going for multiple rounds without rest was certainly a test of my mental stamina.
I wrote the workout on my hand so I would remember it if / when my mind started to wander, and I used a chalk marker on a nearby concrete slab to check off my rounds. Ticking off each round helped me to move onto the next and once I was over half way my brain relaxed with the knowledge that there was less to do than I had already done, and having done that, I could certainly do this!
Today I was up to the Spartan task.
Having read forward in the Spartan Fit book and knowing what is coming up, for me there is no option. To accomplish the progressively challenging goals it is essential for me to stay on task each day and accomplish what is put in front of me.
Day 2 is coming up with 2 of my least favourite things - heavy, awkward carry and time pressure. Wish me luck!
