“Deep inside each human being is a spirit that hungers for movement and for growth. A live and burgeoning ball of energy, the spirit naturally moves, expands, gyrates—dances, even—purely by virtue of its desire for freedom. It craves beauty over entertainment, meaning over triviality, and knowledge over sensation.”
Joe Desena
There is beauty, meaning and knowledge in every physical challenge.
Day 12 was a true test of my stamina. Long heavy carries with burpees and crawl thrown in for good measure.
There are not enough numbers to count how many burpees I have done in the past 7 days!!!
That said, my triceps appear to be up to it.
The tricep muscle is primarily responsible for extension of the elbow joint. Extension of the elbow joint is a vital movement in every burpee, so strength here is vital to success.
Highly repetitive workouts can stress joints like the elbow, so I am attributing my success with the burpees to my complementary and consistent training of Tai Chi and running which provide alternative movements for the arm, elbow joint and shoulder girdle and encourage my body to work as one cohesive unit, rather than individual parts that get strengthened and then asked to work together. The muscles that train together work together - simple as that.
The big upside of this new found freshly trained strength is the confidence I now have to take on the burpees. That confidence extends into being able to face up to whatever turns up tomorrow on the Spartan Fit program and simply doing it.
... 'just do it' ...
I've heard that somewhere before!!
