"The phrase 'I can't' doesn't mean anything to me anymore, not because of my ego but because I know anything is possible."
Joe De Sena
The Spartan Fit 30 day training program is a really solid program to build strength, endurance, mental toughness and obstacle immunity. I am now 24 days in and starting to believe it.
Since last posting the program has included
Day 16 - A really enjoyable run
Day 17 - A really challenging heavy lifting program with sprints and crawls
Day 18 - Alternating hill sprints and heavy carry
Day 19 - A lovely day of active restoration
Day 20 - The Hero Workout - OMG - Pick up heavy stuff, run, do some burpees, pick it up again and run ....ouch!
Day 21 - I played with my boys to meet the requirements of the program of playing a sport that you love for an hour
Day 22 - Test day - So satisfying. Against the Day 0 test scores hangtime improved by more than 50%; burpees improved by more 23 and running speed and distance improved significantly, taking about 20s/km off my pace.
Day 23 - A long run and lots of burpees
Day 24 - Active restoration
Today is Day 24. I'm catching up on lots of stuff; spending time in the garden, blogging and planning to create some really good food. I have a 10km race event tomorrow, which doesn't really fit with the program, but I can make it work, and I'm enjoying that there are no obligations to meet on the Spartan Fit program today.
So, can't is having less of a role in my life as I feel myself becoming Spartan strong. The new strength is showing in the strangest places. A tug of war with my 8 year old son as he tried to pry his deck of Yugioh cards out of my hand to avoid his evening shower was one example ... one day he will overpower me but this day this was an easy win; and when I took my boys ten pin bowling yesterday, they were both impressed with the speed of my pretty pink bowling ball racing down the alley. To be honest I was surprised - my shoulders have never felt so strong nor my focus so keen. I wasn't competitive and it was more about me spending time with them, but the feeling of physical strength and confidence was completely satisfying.
Tomorrow after my 10k the workout says I have to pick up my heavy bag again and do my least favourite workout ... only longer.
Arooo!!! Bring it on ... I am ready.
